New Drug Trials

In January 2008, HemaQuest started a Phase I trial of its first drug candidate, HQK-1001, which is initially being developed to treat hemoglobin disorders, sickle cell anemia and thalassemia. The first study will test different doses of HQK-1001 in normal volunteers to evaluate doses that are safe and able to produce therapeutic drug levels. This first study is in anticipation of a future study where more thorough testing will take place in normal volunteers followed by clinical trials in patients with sickle cell anemia and thalassemia.
